lets talk skin.
Living in Colorado and living an active lifestyle, my skin takes a beating. Sun, wind, dust, sweat, puppy kisses…you name it.
You only get one skin. It’s the temple you live in. (Unless you’re loaded and can do some weird virgin skin swap/rejuvenation treatment when you’re 50 and look like a leather couch).
Anyways, the time is now to take care of that skin of yours. Actually the time was probably 10 years ago when you were using those Biore skin peels and St.Ives face scrub that could clean a cast iron pan. But don’t fret. You can start fresh today.
I like to keep it simple and keep it clean when it comes to my skincare. I have a 2 fold approach – using the best natural skincare to cleanse, treat and moisturize, and then protecting my skin with high quality SPF products daily. Yes every freaking day. Not just when you are planning on laying on the beach all day.
So lets break down my routine & product line up. It may not be the perfect system for you, but this is my blog, so I’ll share what works for me. Enter the organic, holistic, SIMPLE products from Norabloom Botanicals. I’m a long time user of Noraboom and can safely say that this wholesome, organic beauty line up has taken me out of that awkward puberty phase and into my still awkward 20s. What I’m trying to say is this skincare is for anyone, any age, any skin type. It just WORKS. I think there’s something to be said about going back to the basic. Ingredients you can pronounce and might even find in the common kitchen.
- Chamomile gel cleanser. This has been my go to cleanser for over 8 years. That’s basically a common law marriage. But once you find your true love, why stray? Here’s what I love about it. It gets my face squeaky clean while not drying me out like the Mojave desert, it smells heavenly, it kept that teenage acne at bay without any harsh chemicals, and I can pronounce all the ingredients.
Chamomile helps reduce skin irritants by neutralizing free radicals, coconut oil is a skin softener and is great for acne and raw turbinate sugar aka glycolic acid breaks down the glue that bonds skin cells and encourages cellular turnover.” – Norabloom.com
2. Organic Rosehip & Carrot Serum. This “liquid gold” is a must have if you live in a dry climate. It’s super nourishing and loaded with antioxidants. I like to use this before bed and give myself a little overnight treatment, but it is also light enough to wear during the day.
“We have supercharged our beloved organic rosehip seed oil with organic pumpkin seed oil one of the most nutritious oils available and organic carrot essential oil which is known as nature’s skin rejuvenator!” – Norabloom.com
3. Dandelion Face Creme. This is my daily moisturizer. I love love LOVE it. It makes my skin feel velvety smooth, like fresh from the spa smooth. It’s rich but not too heavy, absorbs well and never leaves me with a greasy or shiny face.
“This divine, velvety face creme is ideal for those who prefer a slightly richer formula that is “supercharged”. Dandelion face creme contains organic jojoba and is supercharged with glycolic acid (sugar cane)” –Norabloom.com
Also, they have these adorable little dram size samplers. Perfect for traveling.
Bonus points – Noraboom is a small business, local to my hometown Ithaca NY. Holly, the owner, is an amazing #ladyboss and is truly beautiful on the inside (as well as out, clearly, she’s kind of in the business is looking amazing).
So that’s my “prep” routine. What about the day to day stuff? Enter Supergoop!
I’m very minimal when it comes to makeup. I’m a “smear something on my face to make me looks less blotchy and swipe on some mascara so I don’t look asleep” type of gal. Whats more important to me than looking selfie ready at all times, is sun protection and something good for my skin. Supergoop’s Daily Correct CC Cream is absolutely perfect for my everyday SPF. It has Broad Spectrum SPF 35, which a great amount for daily wear. Also, the color and the consistency is super easy to blend in. It looks like you have nothing but a healthy glow on.
For my more active, outdoorsy days (running, skiing, hiking) I like to pop the Perfect Day 2 in 1 in my bag. It has 2 Broad Spectrum, water resistant components: an everywhere SPF 50 lotion and a minty lip balm with SPF 30. Plus a little mirror! What I love about Supergoop’s suncare product is they don’t smell like sunscreen, aren’t greasy and don’t make you break out. They’re chuck full of antioxidants and don’t have any parabens, oxybenzone, or synthetic fragrances. This is the first sunscreen I’ve used that I WANT to put on daily.
Oh and when I’m feeling fancy, I use a little bit of the Perk Up lip & cheek treat so my lips are on fleek.
Bottom line, please think about what you are putting on your skin. And for goodness sake, wear a little SPF, drink a little water, go to bed a little earlier. Your 50 year old self will thank you.
Whats your MUST HAVE skin care product?
Let’s be honest, when was the last time you smeared on some SPF?
